東南アジアのアリの一種に、巣内にササラダニを飼育しているものが発見されている。このササラダニはほとんど運動せず、アリに運ばれ、アリによって餌を与えられる。産卵時も、アリが卵を引っ張り出すという。ダニは体が柔らかく、時にアリの餌になっているとのことで、人間以外の動物に於ける家畜飼育の例として注目されている。
